Despite my mongrel Jew background, or perhaps to spite it, I consider Zion to lie not between the Mediterranean and the river Jordan. Rather for me it’s between the river Paraguay and the Atlantic in a not so suicidal, country called Brazil.
They just had an election! It marks the third straight full term where the president elect didn’t have to resign from scandal. Not that Brazil’s lost its mojo in that department. The winner with 46% of the vote, 14% more than her closest rival, was Dilma Rousseff. She won despite her former deputy who was caught accepting bribes. Oops…no, more like…meh.
Because of Brazil’s crazy idea that a President must be elected with a majority in order to take office Rousseff will have to face a run-off which she will likely win making her Brazil’s first female president. How cool is it that that is sounding less and less like a milestone?
